DiGA: RISE technology enables Oviva Direkt to connect to the telematics infrastructure

Data from the digital health application soon available in electronic patient records

„DiGA applications require a connection to the telematics infrastructure. With our flexible TIaaS solution, we have provided a stable and highly available connection for Oviva.“

Dr. Christian Schanes, Member of the Management at RISE

The technology manufacturer RISE (Research Industrial Systems Engineering) is supporting Oviva AG with the end-to-end connection of the digital health application (DiGA) Oviva Direkt for obesity to the telematics infrastructure (TI). This will enable Oviva Direkt DiGA patient data to be transferred to the electronic patient file (ePA) in future - naturally in accordance with §341 SGB V and compliant with gematik specifications.

Telematics infrastructure: Oviva as one of the first DiGA manufacturers in the productive environment

Having already been able to test its DiGA in the reference environment with the support of RISE, Oviva is now one of the first providers of digital health applications to be connected to the productive environment of the telematics infrastructure with the support of RISE. This means that in future, user data can be transferred from the DiGA Oviva Direkt app to the ePA.

According to §341 SGB V, DiGA manufacturers must ensure that insured persons' data from digital health applications can be transferred to the electronic patient file. The transfer of data to the electronic patient record is voluntary and requires the patient's consent. Patients benefit from the transfer of data, as all health data is bundled in one place in the ePA. Doctors can thus quickly and efficiently obtain an overview of the patient's medical history and access diagnoses and documents from examinations in other specialist areas.

"With the connection of digital health applications to the telematics infrastructure through RISE, medical data that is recorded and generated in our DiGA will be made available to doctors in the future. This will make it possible to close information gaps in the future. In this way, the quality of treatment for our patients will continue to improve through integrated treatment processes," explains Dr. Anna Haas, Head of Oviva Germany.

Technical implementation by RISE

RISE supports Oviva in connecting to the telematics infrastructure (TI) with its gematik-approved components. This includes the provision of TI-as-a-Service (TIaaS), which enables the secure connection between DiGA Oviva Direkt and the telematics infrastructure. This provides a secure VPN connection from the Oviva Direkt app to the telematics infrastructure. The next step will be to create the necessary conditions so that patients' DiGA data can be written to the ePA.

DiGA applications require a connection to the telematics infrastructure. With our flexible TIaaS solution, we have provided a stable and highly available connection for Oviva. The fact that Oviva has now successfully gone live as one of the first manufacturers of digital health applications in the productive environment is another significant milestone for us and for digital healthcare," explains Dr. Christian Schanes, member of the RISE management board.

About Oviva

Oviva is creating a healthier future for people with weight-related conditions by offering accessible and effective therapy. Founded in 2014, the multidisciplinary founding team around Kai Eberhardt and Manuel Baumann realized that a combination of personal advice and a smart app could lead to a breakthrough for those affected. Today, the app, which is certified as a medical device, enables users to record information such as meals, physical activity and weight. It also allows dialog with the treatment team via chat and provides helpful educational content. Oviva's app-guided therapy supports patients in leading a healthier life, relieves the burden on healthcare professionals and leads to savings in the healthcare system.

Oviva works directly with statutory health insurers and national healthcare systems in Switzerland, Germany, the UK and France and has already treated over 500,000 patients across Europe. Further information is available at: oviva.com

About RISE (Research Industrial Systems Engineering):

RISE has played a leading role in the development of the telematics infrastructure (TI) in the German healthcare system since 2006 and has brought numerous components and services to approval. RISE is currently responsible for the ongoing expansion of the RISE connector, the development of 25 million highly secure patient records for more than 80 health insurance companies, a service for secure e-mail communication between doctors (KIM), the TI's central identity provider (IDP) for access control to specialist services such as electronic prescriptions (e-prescriptions), several federated IDPs and other special components in the TI. RISE supplies medical practices, pharmacies and hospitals with infrastructure software and provides end-to-end maintenance and further development. In addition to ePA deliveries to statutory health insurers, RISE equips a growing number of private health insurance customers with ePA technology and federated IDPs.

RISE enables partners to be solid innovators and digital transformers while integrating good old process and legacy knowledge from established companies and institutions.

RISE supplies business partners as a technology manufacturer or integrator and generally leaves broadband communication to its customers and partners. Please send detailed information on technical, project, technology and research topics by e-mail to:
