Successful use of the RISE Highspeed-Konnektor in the productive environment of RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG
„The RISE Highspeed-Konnektor is a real game changer. The performance and flexibility that we achieve with the HSK are enormous.“
Following the approval of the RISE Highspeed-Konnektor by gematik this year, the technology manufacturer RISE is setting a new standard in the connection to the telematics infrastructure (TI). RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG is the first facility in Germany to successfully use the RISE Highspeed-Konnektor (HSK) in a productive environment. With the introduction of the HSK, RISE provides the healthcare provider with a high-performance, future-proof and efficient connection to the telematics infrastructure.
Initial situation: Complex TI infrastructures require innovative solutions
With up to 50 Einbox-Konnektoren and around 500 card terminals to date, as well as the increasing demand for further card terminals due to the nationwide introduction of e-prescriptions, for example, the previous IT structures of RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG and its healthcare facilities were reaching their limits:
- Performance bottlenecks and long loading times: Services such as insured person master data management (VSDM) or the electronic patient file (ePA) lost performance.
- High hardware requirements: The large number of Einbox-Konnektoren made scalability difficult and led to complex configurations in the primary systems.
- Roll-out of new specialist applications: The existing hardware limited the ability to efficiently introduce future-oriented applications.
- Additional license costs for connector modules: Licenses for modules such as convenience signature, ePA, etc. had to be purchased for each connector unit.
To solve these challenges, the RISE Highspeed-Konnektor was developed - a powerful and scalable solution that is specially tailored to the requirements of large healthcare facilities such as RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG. The HSK provides hospitals with a modern infrastructure that meets both current and future requirements.
Status quo: successful start and noticeable improvements While selected areas of the facility are already using the HSK productively, the roll-out to the entire infrastructure is being prepared step by step. The advantages of the new solution are already clearly noticeable.
A significant improvement can be seen in performance: the loading times for the previous electronic patient file (ePA 2.0) have been significantly reduced.
The HSK has also noticeably simplified the data center. Instead of numerous physical Einbox-Konnektoren, all card terminals can be connected to a single HSK. This not only significantly reduces hardware requirements, but also the complexity of the infrastructure.
In addition, the configuration of the primary systems is significantly simplified: whereas previously around six Einbox-Konnektoren were required at large locations, a single virtual connector is now sufficient. This simplification optimizes maintenance and minimizes potential sources of error.
With the redundant connection via the secure central access point lite (SZZP-Lite) and a guaranteed bandwidth of at least 500 Mbit/s, the new infrastructure also offers a powerful and future-proof basis for the next five years. This will enable RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG to operate specialist applications and TI services even more efficiently and reliably.
RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG sees the RISE Highspeed-Konnektor as a solution for large facilities
RHÖN-KLINIKUM AG sees the RISE Highspeed-Konnektor as a pioneering solution for larger facilities: "The RISE Highspeed-Konnektor is a real game changer. It not only enables us to use the existing infrastructure more efficiently, but also offers planning security for the next five years. The performance and flexibility that we achieve with the HSK are enormous. In future, the SMC-B certificates will be integrated into hardware security modules (HSM). This function must come as quickly as possible in order to become even more efficient," says Julian Schäfer, Team Leader Medical Systems & eHealth, RHÖN-KLINIKUM IT-Service GmbH.
About RISE (Research Industrial Systems Engineering): As a manufacturer and driver of digital technologies from Europe for Europe and the entire digital world, the IT company RISE, which was founded more than 20 years ago as an R&D company from the Vienna University of Technology, can point to leading references, long-standing customers, key technologies, solid products and in-depth expertise in sectors such as healthcare, mobility, finance, retail, administration, manufacturing, industry and IT security. RISE enables partners to be solid innovators and digital transformers, while at the same time reliably integrating good old procedural and existing knowledge from established companies and institutions.
Since 2006, RISE has played a leading role in the development of the telematics infrastructure (TI) in the German healthcare system and has brought numerous components and services to approval. RISE is currently responsible for the ongoing expansion of the RISE (Highspeed-) Konnektor and TI-Gateway, the development of 28 million highly secure patient files (ePA) for more than 80 statutory and private insurance companies, a service for secure e-mail communication between doctors (KIM), the TI's central identity provider (IDP) for access control to specialist services such as the electronic prescription (e-prescription), several federated IDPs and numerous other special components in the TI. RISE supplies doctors' surgeries, pharmacies and many hospitals with infrastructure software and provides end-to-end operation, maintenance and further development. In addition to ePA deliveries to statutory health insurers, RISE equips a growing number of private health insurance customers with ePA technology and a future-proof health ID.
As a global software developer, system manufacturer and integrator, RISE has key experience, technologies and components for nationwide and pan-European solutions in many digitalization sectors such as gov-tech, insurance, payment and banking, logistics, transport, mobility, public administration, industrial IoT, IT security technology, cell phone security and digital ID. RISE supplies business partners as a technology manufacturer or integrator and generally leaves broad-based communication to its customers and partners.
